Flickr announces a new feature, Places.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. At first glance the UI looks really nice, but the data set is rather underwhelming. It took me a while to find a place that it actual has properly (e.g. “North Cascades National Park” redirects to Washington State, which is a large pool of unrelated photos). At least it has Crater Lake (and one of my photos made the start of the second page!), but it says There aren’t any active groups specifically about Crater Lake. Yet. Apparently, the group Crater Lake is not identified well enough for their algorithms to find?!

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
