What amazes me, going back to the Wire article in Time, is that one percent of American adults are in prison.

Yeah, that statistic is pretty fucked up. The number is stupid high if you are a 20 something Black Male. America’s a fucked up country.

Yeah, the volume of people locked up is insane here. I think we’re ahead of Russia, for God’s sake.
In Canada, isn’t there a similar disproportionality with the % of Inuit or native Canadians (what’s the right word)? Like our black males, I think they only make up a few percent of the general pop., but like a fifth of the prisoners up there.

Hmmm… The 2001 Census reported that aboriginal adults were 3% of the total adult population, yet 21% of the male and 30% of the female prison populations.
