Wordpress Website's Search Engine Spam ⇒

   30 March 2005, early evening

The Wordpress home page hosts 120,000 articles used to game search engines.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. WordPress PageRank is currently 0. I am sure the blogosphere (especially Kottke) is happy that they just scored another kill.

  2. I’m not sure what their goal was, but Wordpress shouldn’t be contributing to the search engine spam problem. There are other ways to raise funds. It was a good thing that this was brought to light.

  3. I am not condoning what Wordpress did. But really coordinating this big scoop when the guy is not even available to defend himself is wrong. And Kottke has had a beef with Matt for a while now regards to popularity.

I am sure Matt’s having an awesome vacation.

As for spamming, might I ask what happens to the PageRank of all the spam blogs hosted on Blogspot?

  4. I’ve always wondered how Google deals with Blogspot, since it hosts a bajillion link-farm blogs. And I didn’t know Kottke and Matt were at odds with one another, much like 50-cent and The Game. Waxy posted a follow-up.

  5. Speaking of 50-cent and The Game, there’s a Daily Show clip you need to see.

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
