Why do some people wear shoes indoors? ⇒

I thought it was just something they did on TV.

I wouldn’t take my shoes off in someone’s house unless a) they invited me to or b) they were noticeably dirty, like in winter. Otherwise, I’d find it very odd.

My mom would skin me alive if she ever caught me with shoes in the house. Sometimes if I forgot something in my room and was really lazy, I’d get down on my knees and “walk” to my room that way. Even then she’d yell at me!

Man wearing shoes inside the house seems crazy. Won’t the house get super messy? I hate shoes so much, and socks.
I too assumed that shoes indoors was something only done on TV. I don’t know anyone who wears shoes indoors.

taking your shoes off in the house is totally a canadian thing. when my parents lived in london they always said that seeing shoes at someone’s door meant there were other canadians in the house.

Yep, taking your shoes off in someone’s house here garners comments like ‘Making yourself right at home, are you?’.

I always thought that was a white vs non-white people thing. Or immigrant vs non-immigrant thing.
Either way, as a kid I would also perform Shima’s trick of getting on my hands and knees to “walk” back to my room to get something.
