A painting of me

Survivors of Sri Lanka's infamous Black July riots 25 years ago recall the terror -- and their relief to find a haven in Canada. ⇒

   22 July 2008, late morning

A strange article to find in the SUN of all places. My family and I were all in Sri Lanka just prior to the riots. My dad had planned to move back, but decided against it after making a trip to Colombo from Jaffna to visit a friend. He said you could feel the tension in the air. (If I recall correctly, the train we took out of Jaffna was the last train to leave: the Tigers blew up the route shortly after.) This link was found via Parthi.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

Comments

  1. The National Post did a story on it too: The day a Tamil learned about hate

  2. Strange. I can’t beleive the Post has an article about this but not the Star. And it’s July 23rd today.

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
