They've changed the way they score gymnastics at the Olympics, so i'm not sure what sort of scores moments like the ones linked in this MetaFilter post would receive.

I don’t like how they do their marking for gymnastics. An american women totally failed the landing, like she totally fell on her ass and still got like 15.x. Then her friend goes up and does fairly well, hits the landing fine and also gets 15.x. How does that make any sense!?

A friend pointed me to this NY Times Op Ed: Creep Show about women’s gymnastic, i.e. the fact that it’s really a bunch of 16-year old girls.

I“m not saying that turning little girls into tiny super muscular mini-woman is a good thing, but the author of that article looks to be reading way too much into gymnastics. I think Americans sexualize children way too much. The points made about how the sport fucks up your body for life could be made without the ‘coaches are all pedophiles’ angle.
