Wow, people beat Absolute Virtue finally.
Pandemonium taking 18 hrs to fight doesn’t surprise me, but does seem a bit long. But with all things in FFXI, players get better at killing the HNM’s over time. Kirin used to take 3-4 hrs/fight and now, smaller groups of people beat it in 18 seconds.
FFXI: Oh how awesome you are.

Man, 18 hours is way too long to sit in front of your computer. The best quote is where the dude talks about how people were passing out and throwing up. That shit is crazy.

That’s exaggeration. Those people would be sitting there anyways if they weren’t fighting the HNM. They’d just be doing other stuff, like fighting a different HNM or something. 18 hrs straight playing FFXI is not uncommon to begin with. The first time people fought Absolute Virtue, they kept fighting it for over 30 hours straight.
FFXI is for the hardcore of the hardcore. That basically sums it up lol.

Don’t you need to eat and or shit at some point during those 18 hours though. Like can you get up and do these things mid fight? And I think it’s been well established that FFXI is for a very niche market.

Well yeah, you can always eat and stuff during the fights. You just have to have somebody sub in for you lol.
When I was playing my hardest, I think I was at 20 hr play cycles or something. It’s not uncommon. Most of the people in an end game linkshell were like that. And you always want to be there when stuff happens. Especially when other people are relying on you for support.

I didn’t know people actually learned to beat AV without the wall trick. Even as of recently that Kanican guy is still trying to come up with ways to handle AV?
and yeah Ram, I think the intention is just that you bring a whole ton of people to camp and rotate them in and out as real life and sleep call.
as for the niche market comment though, there’s a lot more to FFXI than HNM camping. I’ve been playing for almost 5 years now and have been having a ton of fun despite never even touching an HNM. The game’s overall design is definitely fairly…cruel though.

People officially beat the ‘nerfed’ Absolute Virtue last night a few times, but it required like 7+ kraken club Dark Knights.
There’s now a maximum time limit as to how long you can fight this mob now. 2 hrs is the max before the mob despawns.
Video of the fight
The video makes it look so easy but it’s taken over 2 years and a nerf to even start getting good damage on it.
This strategy requiring 7+ Kraken Clubs means the strategy is inaccessible to almost every group on most of the servers. The drop rate for the Kraken Club BCNM fight is ~1/400.
