A painting of me

MetaFilter: I'm naked under this burka. ⇒

I don't think women have to wear Burkas in UAE. That said, Flickr has apparently been banned in the UAE.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. I have been to Dubai and Sharjah (saw a cricket match). By all accounts women do enjoy certain freedoms than say Saudi Arabia. I think they still can’t drive there though. But I saw a lot of women in bikinis at the beach. Its like most of the middle east today; things are changing albeit slowly.

  2. are you sure the women in bikinis were arabs though? Most likely than not they were vacationers.

  3. Nah, they were muslim women for sure.

Things are even better in Lebanon. Most of the younger women in Beirut are completely western.

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
