Slashdot: Growth in Indian Offshoring Slowing. ⇒

   25 August 2005, mid-morning

It is hilarious how afraid of Indians the Americans on Slashdot are.

This is a post from my link log: If you click the title of this post you will be taken the web page I am discussing.

  1. The Slashdot folks are funny that way.

In Australia there has been a recent upsurge in hostility towards Indian call centers. I have noticed couple of news programs openly vilifying call centres and the folks who work there instead of blaming the Australian companies that hire them. Even some companies are running ads about how there call centers are not India, thereby differentiating themselves from the competition. You can always milk xenophobia.

  2. I’ve always found the xenophobia prevalent in Australia a bit strange, considering it is so close to Asia, and has such a large Asian immigrant community. I laugh when I hear the Slashdot crowd crying for protectionism, when all they rant about is: open-source, open-standards, open-this, open-that.

Don't be shy, you can comment too!

Some things to keep in mind: You can style comments using Textile. In particular, *text* will get turned into text and _text_ will get turned into text. You can post a link using the command "linktext":link, so something like "google":http://www.google.com will get turned in to google. I may erase off-topic comments, or edit poorly formatted comments; I do this very rarely.
