If Technorati / Google would better follow and track links (you know write some stuff on your site and link to the original post..old school referrals) better, such solutions as TrackBack would be unnecessary. TrackBack was always a solution looking for a problem.
Gruber gave up on TrackBacks a long time back. His posts as usual are illuminating. Of course nobody envisioned the potential abuse of comments / trackbacks by spammers then.
