Crypto

   28 November 2003, mid-afternoon

Handed in my last crypto assignment today. I have doubts about the last question, but I really wanted to go out. We had lots of fun yesterday night. Matt, Shima, Liz, Gary and I went to Fed, the last fed of the term. Signed in some strangers so they could have some fun too. Very nice way to end out the term. Might go see Maestro Fresh Wes tonight if I don’t go back to toronto. Need to work on my last Graph Theory assignment.

The End is Near

   27 November 2003, early afternoon

I finished my last assignment in Formal Languages and Parsing this morning. I finished my last Linear Optimization assignment last night. To say I am getting sick of school would be an understatement. Exams are fast approaching. I need to do two more assignments and then I can study. Joy of joys.

Party

   23 November 2003, early evening

The party was lots of fun. It’s nice seeing my housemates acting all crazy. The varsity badminton team knows how to have a good time.

Tempted to Sleep

   23 November 2003, early morning

… but the house full of drunk people is far too entertaining. Some dude is filling up a garbage bag full of puke. My house mates are more drunk then I’ve ever seen them. We only have two bathrooms, so I really don’t see how this is going to work out well. As long as there is no vomit in my room it should be all good.

… is a wicked song. I’m playing it really loudly right now because my housemates are having a party. I don’t think anyone in the house notices mind you because they are all drunk off their asses.

Distracted

   21 November 2003, early evening

what kind of social software are you? These online tests are always strange. This one is about what kind of social software you are. Interesting idea for a test I suppose. As you can see, I am FOAF. What does this mean? Well according to the test, “Although you’re hacking out the future in RDF, you realise that all technology boils down to dating in the end.” That seems true enough.

Damn Snow

14 November 2003, the wee hours

It snowed today. I woke up this morning to discover my alarm wasn’t working. The power had gone out in the night I suppose. Lucky for me it was 7:45. I set my clock again to the correct time, re-set my alarm, and went back to bed. I woke up again to discover my alarm wasn’t working. The power had gone out again. This time it was 9:30. I have class at 10:00. More importantly I have an assignment due at 10:00. I started rushing to get ready. Ready to leave, I realized that there was snow everywhere. I don’t know where the hell it came from, since when I went to bed the previous night there was a thunder storm going on.

Now, at 11:20 on a Thursday night, I am writing up solutions to a graph theory assignment, and trying to figure out how to show the Diffie Hellman problem can be solved with an oracle that can compute ax2 given ax. God Damn.

iPod Sound Quality

   9 November 2003, mid-afternoon

iPod Sound Quality A really good review of the iPod in terms of sound quality. There is a comparison between ACC vs. MP3, and the encoding of iTunes vs. Quicktime 6.4. All in a all a wicked page to read if you are interested in MP3s and iPods.

Matrix and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

   7 November 2003, evening time

I’ve watched the last Matrix film two days ago, and the Texas Chain Saw massacre yesterday. The latter film was surprisingly good. I wasn’t expecting much from a horror film, but they did quite a good job I must say. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was definitely more coherent a movie then the Matrix. Not that the matrix was bad mind you. I just think the Matrix should have been much better. I now am waiting patiently for the last Lord of the Rings film.

Damn the Graph Theory midterm was hard. My approach of, “hoping it would be easy,” did not pan out so well. Hopefully I can do better on the final.

Scarbs

2 November 2003, terribly early in the morning

I’m back home for the weekend. Last night was spent at Jade’s Halloween party. I didn’t have a costume, but Jen found some jacket her mom had bought in the 70s that was pimped out to the max, so I wore that over some of my regular clothes to fit in.

Carvill came over today and we watched the second Lord of the Rings film. I can’t wait for the third movie. Apparently Ju-lians fears it had been delayed were unfounded, so I’m hoping it will be out this Christmas like its predecessors.

My Graph Theory midterm on monday will be the last midterm I write for 4A. The past two weeks have been crazy.

Sailormoon

   28 October 2003, lunch time

My pencil case was missing for one day. I had dreams about my professor giving it back to me, and I was so happy. I actually had several dreams about getting it back.

I was sitting in class this morning when my professor walked in and held it up. I guess I feel stupid saying the pencil case is mine, but really, no more stupid then I normally do taking out my sailormoon pencil case.

A Frame for My Pictures

28 October 2003, the wee hours

I now have a picture frame. Will need to work on putting a picture in it. The past 9 months have been good. Very good. All the stress from school can’t change that. I wrote a midterm today. It went well. Although, I left my sailormoon pencil case in the room and now it’s missing in action. I’ve had it since grade 10! I’m hoping the TA picked it up or something. Cross your fingers please.

Bad Essays

   26 October 2003, early afternoon

I’ve written plenty of bad essays in my day. Since coming to university that number has only gone up. Since I am in Computer Science I am not asked to write essays all that often. So, any skill I may have had in high school, when it came to essay writing, has all but vanished.

When I was in 2A I took Marxism After Marx. I wrote 3 essays in that class. The first one I was actually quite happy with. I mentioned to the professor of the course, in passing, that I was in Computer Science, and if the essay was not that great, that would most likely be the reason. He said he felt sorry for me and wrote “Computer Science” on the top of my paper. I got an ‘A’ on every paper I handed in to him.

My essays for my English classes, for my Religious Studies classes have always been sub par in my opinion, though some how I usually manage to get B’s or A’s on them. I think it may be due to the fact the rest of my classmates are writing really bad essays. I really do not think my essays are good at all.

Yesterday I wrote up most of my first essay of this term, for my History and Film course. This essay is a whole other kind of bad. I don’t want to hand it in at all.

I Would Go Out Tonight

   21 October 2003, evening time

The past week or so has been stressful to say the least. The next week or so should be equally so. I’ve finally finished my second crypto assignment. Not without much ulcer inducing fun mind you. I now move onto graph theory which should be equally fun. Please send me your good luck.

My case arrived from California, which I guess they imported from Japan. It’s a dull red, and quite cool. I like so far. I haven’t actually used it really though. I’ll write a review of it shortly. Then I can say there is something useful on this website.

Expect updates to the photo webpage shortly.

And The Winner Is

   10 October 2003, evening time

So in the end I decided on the Red ZeroShock 12.1 inch sleeve from Shinza. The sleeve looks slick. I’m hoping it can live up to all the hype. I’ll write a review of it when it finally arrives.

iBook Sleeves

   8 October 2003, early evening

I am looking to get a sleeve for my iBook. I own a really nice bag from fcuk that I use as a laptop bag, but I think it caused a scuff on the top of my ibook next to the apple logo. Trying to decide what bag I should get. Some ideas I have are: the ZeroShock 12-Inch Notebook Sleeve from Shinza, the Baracuda SportFolio Sleeve from Marware, and the iSleeve12 from Booq Bags. I’m not sure what to get. So if you read this go to the three links, and email me to let me know what you think I should do.

Update: I bought the Shinza ZeroShock sleeve, which is excellent.

Walk Walk Walk

   5 October 2003, mid-afternoon

Just got back from the CIBC Walk for the Cure event, a breast cancer walk-a-thon. Due to some bad luck we ended up walking from some where on University to Rim Park, where the even was being held. By the time we made it to the event, everyone was already crossing the finish line, so we just sort of joined in. We probably walked a few kilometers, three or so perhaps. I think it’s the thought that counts anyway. The misadventure was kind of fun.

The Flying Dog

   4 October 2003, mid-afternoon

My weekend has been good. A mix of work and socializing. Friday night I went to the Flying Dog with Alex, Linh, Julia, Jade, Gary, Ju-Lian, Pheth, Jade and Jen, all for Jen’s birthday. It was full of people much older then us. A very surreal experience I’m sure. Plenty of stories, but none for mass consumption like this.

Spent the next day with them all in the early afternoon. Had breakfast and a breakfast place that is not as good as Angie’s Kitchen. It was in the middle of nowhere. Met them again for dinner at Timeless.

The rest of my weekend I have spent doing my Cryptography assignment. Factoring numbers and what have you.
